Bhaavanaatharangam A Retrospective' Solo Exhibition by Thota Vaikuntam

Jehangir Art Gallery has been recognized over the years as a centre of contemporary Indian art and has become a rendezvous point for artists, patrons and art lovers. When this prestigious institution showcases work of an artist across all 4 arts spaces in the gallery, you are sure to witness some iconic work. From a coffe table book launch spanning across 4 illustrious decades of Vaikuntam's career to a show that housed 200 epic works from 1980s till present time, this was a momentous show put together by Manvinder Davar of India Fine Art Gallery. Manvinder has been working on the show for the past 4 years and was beaming at all the praises being showered upon him.

A celebration of color, a celebration of his home state, a celebration of his art and a celebration of his life... is an apt description that one can give for legendary artist Thota Vaikuntam's solo exhibition and book launch titled, "Bhaavanaatharangam A Retrospective" which was inaugurated last evening by legendary artist and good friend of Vaikuntam, Mr. Suryaprakash. Suryaprakash and Vaikuntam go a long way back and he has even conducted an interview in the book. Speaking on the book and the show Vaikuntam stated that, "I am very happy today to see my full family, my sons and daughter and wife and grandchildren are all here to support me and they are so proud. This book and this show mean a lot as I can see my life as an artist span across my eyes in one space and for that, I am thankful to Manvinder. Thank you so much for all this adulation and praise, today I feel complete."

The show was one of a kind as it marks a retrospective of the iconic artist. The exhibition displayed a volume of Vaikuntam's works since the past 4 decades. From paintings to sculptures to panels and drawings, the show depicts the genius behind Thota Vaikuntam's art like never before.

The who's who of Mumbai made their presence felt at the show including Dino Morea, Tanisha Mukherjee, Tania Deol, Ekta Raheja, Nayantara Thacker, Sneha and Varsha Taurani,  Renu Chainani, Ashish Goel, Gaurav and Pramita Bhatia, Naina Kanodia, Tanaaz Doshi, Ujjwala Raut, Laila and Ricky Lamba, Raj Anand, Ajay De and many more.

All in all, a toast was surely raised to the man who changed the face of Indian art, Thota Vaikuntam!
